Converting AutoCAD Detail into Revit

4 Steps converting AutoCAD Detail into Revit Projects...

STEP 1:  IN AUTOCAD: Cleaning your detail before importing to Revit.

  • Select a single detail you want to bring into Revit.

  • Remove all text, dimensions, and notes, etc.

  • Save the file in a temporary location. Later, it can be deleted after importing it to Revit.

STEP 2:  IN REVIT: BRING THE CAD FILE TO REVIT

  • Use import CAD and select CAD detail.

  • I use black & white Manual origin.

  • Open the detail view and full explode.

STEP 3:  IN REVIT: DRAW ON CAD FILE

  • If detail is not too much complicated, then avoid exploding detail instead use a pick line to draw over it.

STEP 4:  IN REVIT: CLEAN REVIT FILE AND SAVE

  • Clean Revit detail by using Purge Unused command under Manage Tab.

  • I’m just making sure that none of those AutoCAD lingering stuff comes over into my projects. So, this is what I would do.

  • At last, Save the Revit detail.

This is the conversion process I would follow to import CAD detail to Revit, by bringing in all Required CAD details in Separate Revit file, and then Importing them into my Project file and go from there…
